Deputy taking man to hospital suffers heart attack

A St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Deputy rushing a man apparently suffering a heart attack to the hospital Thursday night suffered one himself.

According to a sheriff's spokesman, Deputy Ronald Sylvester, a commissioned employee in the maintenance department, was escorting a man from the VFW Hall to a night depository when the man experienced chest pains.

Sylvester proceded toward the hospital when he himself had a heart attack and the other man had to take over the driving.

A call regading the incident came into the Eunice Police Dept. shortly after 9 p.m.

Sylvester was in a hospital Intensive Care Unit Friday. A condition report was unavailable, as were the ages of either man or the name of the other man or his medical condition.
