Descendants of Firmin Breaux get together in Breaux Bridge

BREAUX BRIDGE – Descendants of Firmin Breaux, who built the first bridge that gave Breaux Bridge its name, meet at Café des Amis in this city to begin steps toward membership in the Sons of the American Revolution.

Firmin Breaux, a militiaman at the Attakapas Post (now St. Martinville), fought with Spanish troops in support of the American cause against the British troops at Fort New Richmond (now Baton Rouge) in 1779.
