District diamond wins for Wolves, Ladies

The Rayne High Wolves Baseball Team began their district slate Tuesday in a big way with a 12-0 romping of Northwest.

The Wolves scored at least one run in each of the five innings in the shortened ballgame, sealing the shutout with seven runs in the fifth and final inning.

Collecting the win on the mound for the Wolves was Kameron Falcon who three seven strikeouts. Jacob Hebert finished up the last inning fanning two batters.

At the plate, Brice Meche was 2-for-4 with three RBI’s, while Grant Abshire was 1-for-4 with four RBI’s.

Wolf Hunter Keely was 1-for-1 with two RBI’s during the win, while Ivy Thibodeaux, Gannon Quebodeaux and Grant Menard each collected hits.

In earlier action, the Wolves hosted a round robin on Saturday at Gossen Park where they claimed wins over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte and Opelousas High.

Rayne sneaked by Sacred Heart 6-4 in their opener. Jacob Hebert collected the win for the Wolves with three strikeouts on four innings of throwing. Ty Delahoussaye donated two and a half innings of work chipping in three strikeouts of his own.

Leading at the plate were Brice Meche (2-2), Jacob Hebert (1-2, 2 RBIs), Tyler LeJeune (2-3, 2 RBIs), Grant Abshire (1-3, 1 RBI) and Ivy Thibodeaux (1-3).

In their second round robin contest, the Wolves slipped by Opelousas, 6-5 turning in a two-run seventh inning for the come from behind win.

Kameron Falcon claimed the win on the mound for the Wolves as he closed out the final two innings.

Leading the Rayne offense were Grant Menard (1-3), Brice Meche (1-2, RBIs), and Grant Abshire (3-4, 1 RBI).

In other action last week, the Wolves claimed wins over Centerville and Cecilia.

In the 19-0 win over Centerville, Rayne batters spread out 16 hits among nine batters, led by Hunter Keely, Ivy Thibodeaux, Dustin Dupuis, Grant Abshire, Grant Menard, Brice Meche and Tyler LeJeune.

The winning pitcher was Wolf Kameron Falcon, assisted by Matt Dore.

In their 15-2 win over Cecilia, Rayne hurler Hunter Keely completed the five-inning shutout with eight strikeouts and allowing two hits.

Collecting Rayne hits were Grant Menard (4-4, 5 RBIs), Brice Meche (1-2, 3 RBIs), Tyler LeJeune (2-4, 2 RBIs), Grant Abshire (2-2, 1 RBI) and Dustin Dupuis (2-4, 1 RBI).

The Wolves are scheduled to travel to Livonia today (Thursday) for another district contest before returning home when they host Loreauville Saturday and Post Barre on Monday.

Lady Wolves

The Lady Wolves traveled to Northwest Tuesday afternoon for another district win, improving their district slate to 4-1.

The Lady Wolves hosted Eunice last week when they collected their third district win during a 4-0 shutout.

Kelcie Bourgeois collected the win on the mound for the Lady Wolves as she fanned eight batters while allowing just two Eunice hits.

Collecting hits for the Lady Wolves for the district win were Katelyn LeDoux, Amanda Bourque, Alex Peltier (2B), Ariel Meche, Kristin Gaspard (2B) and Katie Benoit.

The Lady Wolves will be on the road today (Thursday) at Livonia, followed by another district contest Monday when they host Port Barre.
