Dixon escapee nabbed in Baton Rouge

On the morning of Monday, November 10, authorities from Dixon Correctional Institute, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, Baton Rouge Police Department and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department joined forces to locate a DCI inmate who had escaped from the Prison Enterprises Wakefield Meat Processing Plant in West Feliciana Parish.

The inmate, Anthony Williams, was part of an inmate trustee crew assigned to the meat processing facility. When authorities discovered that Williams was missing, DCI Warden Steve Rader alerted his staff, and they began following Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections policies, which stipulate what should be done in the event of an inmate escape.

Although the inmate was not scheduled to be released from prison until the year 2014, DCI learned that he had telephoned his family the night before and indicated to them that he was scheduled to be released from prison on Monday. Officials also learned that the inmate had made arrangements for someone to meet him at a restaurant in St. Francisville and transport him to a bus station in Baton Rouge.

Through information obtained during the morning of the escape, it was believed that Williams planned to return to his home in Marrero, La. Authorities went to the CATS transit terminal in Baton Rouge, where the inmate had planned to catch a LA Swift bus to New Orleans. As officers were driving in the vicinity of the bus station, the escapee was sighted. The inmate fled to a vacant house where he was captured.

After capture, Anthony Williams was transported to West Feliciana Parish Prison where he was booked for simple escape. He was then returned to DCI.
