Donation made to BCE

The Cabot Foundation presented a check to Bayou Chicot for $30,000 to equip a computer lab.

Principal Delores “Dee” Miller, who thanked Cabot for this generous offer, said the monies would be used to add to an existing lab. She said at the moment, they’re using COWS, which is laptop computers on carts, which can be moved. She said the monies will allow the school to purchase new computers. Although there is no instructor, teachers will set up a schedule, and the computers will be used for ILEAP and LEAP instruction, research and writing. She said students will be exposed to so much more. Teachers now use computers in their classrooms, but the number of computers are limited. She said this lab will allow the entire class to utilize the computers, which will also allow teachers and staff members to use them for data purposes and teacher in-services. She said these computers would even allow educators to use them for parent classes. There will be 30 computer stations. Next to them, making the presentation, were Mark Suellentrop, facility general manager, and Maggie Ortego, human resources representative.
