Doris Landry Hensgens
Crowley - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 2p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Doris Landry Hensgens, 83, who died peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 8:45 p.m. at Lafayette General surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Hensgens was born in Leroy on March 7, 1927; she was a longtime resident of Mowata and a resident of Crowley at the time of her death. Mrs. Hensgens was a longtime member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Saint Lawrence Catholic Church Ladies Altar Society and The Rosary Group. She was a former member of Les Dames Acadienne and the Red Bobbin Sewing Group. She was a very active member of the Crowley Town Club and enjoyed both the Cadillac and Bourre’ card groups. She was noted for her cooking and her skilled sewing, especially her handwork. She dedicated her life to her family as a farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila H. Hargrave and her husband Calvin of Longview, TX; three sons, Richard Hensgens of Lake Arthur, Dale Hensgens and his wife Tina of Mowata; Keith Hensgens and his wife Melanie of Gueydan; two sisters,Ruby L. Borel of Abbeville, LA and Ione L. Clark of Maurice, LA; a brother Leo Landry of Houston, TX; fifteen grandchildren, Douglas Edwards Hensgens, Scott Hensgens, Luke Hensgens, Alyson Hensgens, Kyle Hensgens, Jake Hensgens, Cory Hargrave, Kelli H. Smolarz, Erik Hargrave, Nicholas Hensgens, Stephen Hensgens, Gabriel Hensgens, Matthew Hensgens, Liesl Hensgens, John Peter Hensgens; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Hensgens and Caroline Scott Hensgens.
Mrs. Hensgens was preceded in death by her parents, Olifus and Clelie Bernard Landry; her husband of 62 years Nicholas L. Hensgens; three brothers Riley Landry, infant twins Wilber and Wilbert Landry; three sisters; Adlass Lalande, Allie Jordan and Idell Landry.
The family requests memorial contributions to St. Michael Elementary School and Notre Dame High School.
