Doucet to be guest speaker at next Genealogy Society meeting
CROWLEY – The Pointe de l’Eglise: Acadia Genealogical and Historical Society held its quarterly meeting on Saturday August 13, at the Crowley branch of the Acadia Parish Library. The meeting began at 9:30 a.m.
Guest speaker for the meeting was Dr. John Doucet, Dean of the College of Sciences at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.
He is a genetics researcher and educator, specializing in genetic diseases in Louisiana families. Co-editor of the website “Genetics and Louisiana Families,” Dr. Doucet is the first Certified Public Health Geneticist in the southern United States. He spoke about genetics in Louisiana populations.
The Society aims to bring together those persons who are researching family history. Furthermore, the Society works to collect and preserve historical information of value regarding the Acadia Parish area.
Dr. Doucet will speaking again at the next meeting which will be held at the Crowley library on Saturday, November 12, from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The Society meetings are open to the public. Contact Ann Mire at 788-1880 if you have any questions.
