Dr, Dawson returns to Medical Examiners Board

BATON ROUGE – Tuesday, Nov. 25,, Governor Bobby Jindal announced appointments, including Dr. Mark Dawson of Rayne, to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

 The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners serves to regulate the practice of medicine in the state of Louisiana by examining all applicants and issuing licenses or permits to those possessing the necessary qualifications.

 According to statute, the board is comprised of seven gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Four members are selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana State Medical Society, of whom one must practice in a parish or municipality with a population of less than twenty thousand people. Additionally, two members are selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Medical Association and one member is selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Academy of Family Practice Physicians.

 Appointments to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners:

 Dr. Mark Dawson, of Rayne, is a physician with Acadiana Family Medical Associates and a part time instructor at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Family Medicine Residency Program in Lake Charles. Dawson was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana State Medical Society to serve as a representative of a community of less than twenty thousand people, as required by statute.

 Dr. Robert Dawson, of Kenner, is the associate medical director of St. Charles Community Health Center and a former chair of the United States Public Health Service Physician Provider Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General. Dawson was nominated by the Louisiana State Medical Society, as required by statute.

Dr. Kim LeBlanc, of New Orleans, is the head of the Department of Family Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and is a former president and vice president of the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.  LeBlanc was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana State Medical Society, as required by statute.
