Dr. Ducote passes away, rites Saturday

CROWLEY – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Dr. George W. Ducote, 92, who died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services.
The family requests visiting hours Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to service time.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Dr. Ducote was a native of Cottonport and lifelong resident of Crowley. He began his career in music having played saxophone and clarinet in New Orleans and Kansas City. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1940 and began his practice in Crowley that same year. He was a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. He served as a Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America and was an avid golfer. He served two consecutive years as president of Louisiana Optometric Association and also served as its’ secretary-treasurer. Dr. Ducote was one of the original ten owners of KLFY TV in Lafayette.
Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Guillory, Robert Francis, Dudley Premeaux, Leland Gauthier, Milo Nickel, Norris Breaux, Don Shetler, Joe B. Stoma and Dr. John Taylor.
Dr. Ducote’s family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Stringfellow and his staff for their excellent medical care. They also wish to thank Warren Guillory, Theresa Guillory and Linda Wilson for their great care during his time of illness.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Cruse Ducote of Crowley.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Ducote, Sr. and Maude G. Ducote; and one foster brother, Frank Dihoppe.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
