Duhon, Rath married in evening Nuptial Mass

BATON ROUGE - Ashley Nicole Duhon and Nathan Paul Rath were united during a 6:30 p.m. nuptial mass on September 10, 2010.

The mass, officiated by Deacon Don Musso, was held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.

Musical selections were played by Gretchen Nobles, the groom’s sister. Scripture readings were read by Elizabeth Anne Thomas, cousin of the bride, and Kenneth Nobles, the groom’s brother-in-law.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by Bonnie Harmon, her mother, and Jeffry P. Nickel. Ashley wore a strapless, mermaid-style gown made of silk shantung with unique ruching detail and a chapel length train. For her headpiece, she wore a cathedral length veil. Her bouquet was a large bouquet of white roses, cymbidium orchids, green hypericum, black fern curls and guinea feathers. A loop of corn plant leaves and beargrass collared the flowers.

Keeping with tradition, the bride had her paternal grandmother’s broach as something old, her wedding dress was the something new, her maternal grandmother’s engagement ring was the something borrowed and she wore blue shoes for the something blue.

Both sisters of the bride, Allison Elizabeth Nickel and Sarah Margaret Nickel, served as the maids of honor. Completing the bride’s wedding party were Kellie Duhon, sister-in-law of bride, Sarah Rath, groom’s sister, Julie Smith Politz, friend, and Ashley Kleinpeter, friend.

The attendants wore floor length black taffeta empire gowns with deep back and flower detailing at the waist. They walked down the aisle holding a bouquet of white hydrangeas, green cymbidium orchids, white and green roses with fern curls and guinea feathers.

The groom’s father, Lawrence Rath, served as the best man. Serving as groomsmen were Benjamin Stephens, friend, and Jeff Duhon, Brice Nickel, Taylor Nickel and JohnDavid Nickel, all brothers of the bride.

The groom’s friends, Dustin Miller, Kevin Mosely, Darren Arbour and Benjamin Kora, served as ushers at the ceremony.

The mother of the bride, Bonnie Harmon, walked down the aisle in a floor length black taffeta gown with ruching and a ruffled Victorian neckline. She held a nosegay of white spray roses and green hypericum.

The mother of the groom, Kathryn Talley Rath, wore a floor length black taffeta A-line skirt with a white sleeveless top with a ruffled Victorian neckline. She also held a nosegay of white spray roses and green hypericum.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held on the back lawn of a friend’s home in the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. The lawn was decorated with large waterfall arrangements of hydrangeas, roses, green cymbidium orchids, green amaranthus with olive branches accented by guinea feathers and looped beargrass.

The bride’s cake was a three-tiered buttercream cake with raspberry filling and was decorated with fondant leaves and cymbidium orchids.

The groom’s cake was a two-tiered chocolate dauberge cake with chocolate drizzle and chocolate covered strawberries.

After their wedding trip, the couple will reside in Baton Rouge.

A rehearsal dinner was held at 7:30 p.m. on September 9 at the White Oak Plantation, located in Baton Rouge. The groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rath, served as hosts for the evening. Guests enjoyed a menu of pan fried medallions of eggplant topped with sauted crawfish tails on Creole meuniere White Oak Plantation salad as the appetizer; a file of beef on March and deVin sauce with crab cake on creolaise as the entree; and, for desert, white chocolate bread pudding with whiskey sauce.

The bride is the daughter of Bonnie Harmon, Jeff Nickel and Jeff Duhon, all of Crowley. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold Harmon of Crowley and Bettie Duhon and the late Julian Duhon of Crowley.

She is a Notre Dame High School and Louisiana State University graduate.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rath of Baton Rouge. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rath of Bella Vista, Ark. and Kenneth Talley and the late Gloria Talley of Baton Rouge.

He is a Tara High School graduate and is currently attending Southeastern State University.
