The 22nd Annual Avec Souci Garden Tour, “Les Beaux Jardins”, will be held today in Lafayette.

The annual Lafayette Garden Tour will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at five of Lafayette’s most unique gardens. This year’s tour features the homes of: Kathleen and Barry Heinen, 400 Monteigne Dr. (Host Home) On nearly two acres in the middle of town, Kathleen and Barry Heinen’s garden is a true gardener’s garden. The home and surrounding grounds are reminiscent of a country setting. There is an enclosed swimming pool on the north side of the house, a vegetable garden with pea gravel paths, and a quaint garden shed designed to compliment the style of the home. The Heinen yard is always a “work in progress,” with nicks and bruises, not a “Disney World” garden. Anyone who understands the satisfaction of a full day’s work in the sun will appreciate this garden.

Jean and Martin Leonard, 720 Brentwood Blvd;

Liz and Charlie Baudoin, 603 Richland Ave;

Michelle and David Andrus, 103 Llansfair Dr.;the concept behind the Andrus residence master plan was to create a comprehensive design that incorporated three main issues/ideas: comfortable, functional use; aesthetical charm, and a variety of spaces that provide multiple uses but work together to create one unified form. The focal point of the backyard is the water feature at the center of the nautilus-shaped pool. As does the pool, all of the elements in the backyard radiate out from the center water feature. The fire pit shares this same concept and the two spaces merge together like concentric circles of pebbles thrown into a pool of water.

Charon and Frankie Harris, 403 Doyle Dr. The Home Gardens of Frankie and Charon Harris are a plant lover’s French garden designed by Ted Viator or Viator and Associates, Landscape Architects. The gracious front yard of the home invites guests to the front porch, with adjacent cobblestone walks that direct guests to the side entry or the backyard. The backyard planting areas are outlined by the continuous cobblestone walks which encircle the citrus orchid and olive trees. Antique garden pots, benches and accents add to the French influence of this garden. All participating homes are in Lafayette.

Also featured will be the homes of Jean and Martin Leonard, 720 Brentwood Blvd; and Liz and Charlie Baudoin, 603 Richland Ave. Photos of their homes are available on the www.avecsouci.org Web site, but a written description was not available at press time.

In the event of rain, the tour will be rescheduled to Wednesday, April 22nd from 3-7 PM.

As an extra treat, the Ladies Club always serve homemade refreshments at the home of the host.

This year’s recipients are: Lafayette Special Olympics; The Conservatory of Music (free lessons and instruments for underprivileged children); Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic; Camp Bon Couer (for children with heart problems); and the ULL Scholarship Foundation.

A donation of $15.00 at the gate will help many people in need. For more information, log on to our web site: www.avecsouci.org and click on Garden Tour. A map of the tour is on back of tickets.
