Early morning weather causes power outages, school closures

CROWLEY – Bad weather that hit Crowley, and the surrounding areas, early Friday morning caused most of the city to lose electricity and some school closures.

Cleco reports that all outages were repaired by 7:54 a.m., but a couple of Crowley schools were forced to close before. St. Michael School and Redemptorist Catholic School announced closures earlier in the morning.

Meanwhile Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, Northside Christian School and all public schools in Crowley are open today. In fact, Crowley High School was lucky to never lose power at all during the early morning storm.

Cleco was able to re-energize the substation in order for residents in Crowley to have power, but the company is still unsure where the problem occurred. They do know that there was a problem with the high voltage transmission lines that power the substation that feeds the city of Crowley electricity.
