Early vote turnout recorded
Registrar of Voters Billie J. Meyer reported
Tuesday afternoon that voter turnout has been the heaviest she has experienced since becoming registrar in 1993.
With the closing of early voting Tuesday, over 3,000 voters have cast early ballots by visiting the Registrar’s office in the Courthouse.
The final total for the seven days of advance voting was 4,467.
By comparison, in the previous presidential election cycle, 2,096 early ballots were cast.
Since early voting began last week, Tuesday, Meyer reports periodically waiting lines have developed and voters have patiently waited an average of 10 to 20 minutes to complete their ballots.
The final figures also includes ballots cast by mail and those recorded at parish nursing homes.
Tuesday, Oct. 28, recorded the highest voter turnout during the seven-day period when 687 ballots were counted. The second highest day was Monday, Oct. 27, with 572 ballots. The lowest ballot count occurred Saturday, Oct. 25, when 333 ballots were cast.
