Early voting continues, count at 2,249

Early voting is underway, and by Friday afternoon, October 24, 2,249 voters had cast their ballots, according to Evangeline Parish Registrar Lucas Buller.

Early voting began Tuesday, October 21, for the November 4, election with 505 ballots being cast. Wednesday's numbers totaled 577 ballots. Thursday's number was 576, and Friday's total was 591. (The Gazette was published before Saturday's final numbers were tallied.)

Early voting will continue until Tuesday, October 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The registrar's office is closed today, October 26.

Buller reminds residents to be familiar with this lenghthy ballot which features the preseidential election, U.S. Senator's race and seven proposed changes to the state's constitution (You can view the guide to these amendments at http://www.la-par.org/Publications/PDF/ConstAmends2008.pdf or The Gazette’s website at villeplattetoday.com.) Some voters also will see a run-off election for a seat on the Mamou Council, a runoff for the city marshal's position in Ward One, a school millage for Ward One and a race for U.S. representative
