Early voting for November 4, election tops 3,833

The turnout for early voting for the November 4, election was a record breaker, according to Evangeline Parish Registrar Lucas Buller.

"That's a record turnout for Evangeline Parish," Buller said Wednesday morning as he acknowledged 3,833 voters cast their ballot during the week set aside for early voting, which ended Tuesday, October 28.

On Tuesday, October 21, 505 ballots were cast. The rest of the week's numbers were: Wednesday, 577; Thursday, 576; Friday, 591; Saturday, 415; Monday, 421; and Tuesday, October 28, 665.

Of the 3,833 votes cast, 3,092 were Ward One voters. That's a 17 percent turnout in Ward One alone.

Buller expects turnout on election day, November 4, to be high. He also reminds residents to be familiar with this lenghthy ballot, which features the preseidential election, U.S. Senator's race and seven proposed changes to the state's constitution (You can view the guide to these amendments at http://www.la-par.org/Publications/PDF/ConstAmends2008.pdf or The Gazette’s website at villeplattetoday.com.) Some voters also will see a run-off election for a seat on the Mamou Council, a runoff for the city marshal's position in Ward One, a school millage for Ward One and a race for U.S. representative.
