Edwards to help kickoff fundraising
CROWLEY – On Friday, the Community Outreach Corporation, a non-profit corporation committed to meeting the needs of the homeless in our area, announced the start of a year long campaign to support the homeless in our community.
The campaign will kick off with a cocktail reception featuring former Governor Edwin Edwards to be held in Le Grande Hall at the Grand Opera House of the South on the evening of Saturday, March 10, 2012. The sole purpose of the event is to provide much needed funds to The Welcome House, a homeless shelter funded completely by private donors.
The mission of The Welcome House is to develop and implement programs that serve the needs of a diverse population working to break the cycles of homelessness and addiction in our community. The shelter operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, housing approximately 65 homeless men, women and children. The adult residents are comprised of those who have fallen upon difficult times due to the current economic recession and those who are suffering some form of mental illness or addiction
Residents struggling to conquer such problems are referred to treatment programs provided both at the facility and by other providers in our area.
The facility is staffed by volunteers, who fill the roles of director, managers, cooks, housemen, clothing organizers and laundry personnel. No one receives a salary.
“This event is so important because the shelter is fully funded by private donations,” stated Isabella delaHoussaye, member of the Community Outreach Corporation and organizer of the event. “Without the help of the whole community, these people would have no place to go.”
The evening with former Governor Edwin Edwards is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Le Grande Hall in the Grand Opera House of the South. Tickets to the event are $250 per person, and sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, please contact Clay LeJeune at 337-788-1505 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
