Engineer develops overlay list
Consulting engineer Andre Aucoin has completed a pre-bid listing for the 2008 Eunice overlay program.
The list was developed from requests submitted by each alderman.
The City Council divided the money available, about $800,000, evenly among the four ward representatives and Alderman at-large Jack Burson.
That is the traditional way of doing it in the overlay program that is conducted every other year.
The money is split between wards as opposed to a system which creates a city-wide priority list.
Priority programs use traffic count, numbers of occupied dwellings, number of businesses, whether the road is a school bus route and other such criteria in determining which streets are repaired and when.
Aucoin studied the roads wish list from each council member and developed the pre-bid list.
The spending target for each council district and city-wide was $160,000.
Estimated totals are Ward 1, $173,531; Ward 2, $154,115; Ward 3, $154,189; Ward 4, $161,289; and at-large, $113,722.
The at-large estimate leaves about $46,000 for Mayor Bob Morris to designate, an arrangement agreed to earlier by Burson.
