EP students do well at 4-H University

“Louisiana 4-H Raising the Bar for 100 Years” was the theme of the 94th Annual 4-H University held on the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. Thirty 4-H’ers from Evangeline Parish participated this year.

4-H University is a state-wide competition where 1,543 4-H’ers from throughout the state competed in many different categories or participated in Clover College.

This year’s 4-H University participants did a terrific job representing Evangeline Parish. Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the LSU AgCenter.

Placing in contests were: Abigail Daire, Sacred Heart, Ag Product Demonstration, third place; Robert Fusilier, Sacred Heart, Dairy Judging - Individual, fifth place; Lainey Soileau, Sacred Heart, Dairy Judging - Individual - eighth place; Robert Fusilier, Lainey Soileau and Meghan Vidrine, Sacred Heart, Dairy Judging Team, second place; Nicholas Klump, Basile High, Diesel Operations, ninth place; Victoria Fontenot, Basile High, Fashion Review - Casual, 10th place; Allison Fusilier and Madeline Broussard, Sacred Heart, Horticulture General Demonstration, second place; Tobi Parrot and Sarah Fontenot, Sacred Heart, Horticulture Use Demonstration, fourth place; Kylie Darbonne, Sacred Heart High, Plant Science - Individual - first place, State Winner;

Kimberly Rose, Sacred Heart, Plant Science - Individual, fourth place; Casey Dunagan, Sacred Heart, Plant Science, fifth place; Kylie Darbonne, Casey Dunagan and Kimberly Rose, Sacred Heart, Plant Science, first place, State Winner; James Nicks and Freddie Chatman, Ville Platte High, Sports Broadcasting, seventh place.

Also participating were: Gavin Fontenot, Basile High, ATV; Catherine Briley, Sacred Heart, Child Development; Madeline Briley, Sacred Heart, Child Development; David Scott Fontenot, Basile High, Compact Tractor; Bryson Belaire, Basile High, Dog Care; Jacob Bordelon, Austin Fontenot and Jordan Vidrine, Sacred Heart, Horticulture Judging Team; Nickolas Bertrand, Basile High, Insect Identification; Sydney McGehee, Basile High, Insect Identification; Lindsay Brunet, Sacred Heart, Meat Identification; Lakaya Griffin, Ville Platte High, Nutrition Illustrated Talk, FNP; Alexandra Davidson, Sacred Heart, Ian Fontenot, Pine Prairie High, and Clint Manuel, Sacred Heart - Plant Science.

Accompanying these 4-H’ers were adult volunteer leaders Dexter Fontenot and Angie Fusilier, along with 4-H agents Tina Guillory and Todd Fontenot.

We would like to congratulate these 4-H members for their hard work, effort and dedication to preparing for their contests. A thank you goes to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, friends and the community for encouraging and supporting these 4-H’ers in their quest during state competition. Also, a sincere “Thanks” to the people in our community, and to the staff of the Evangeline Parish Cooperative Extension Service for helping train these young people and for the cooperation and support that was given.
