Epsilon Sigma celebrates Founder’s Day

On May 3, and May 4, members of the Epsilon Sigma chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority enjoyed a weekend in Baton Rouge to celebrate Founder’s Day.

The Founder’s Day Banquet was held at the Embassy Suites hotel, where the new slate of officers was installed. The officers were sworn in as follows: Gwen Wolff, president; JoAnne Eastin, vice president; Sheila Miller, secretary; Judy Waters, treasurer; and Sheila Saunders, extension officer.

Barbara Buroker was presented with a gift of appreciation as outgoing president, and Judy Waters received the most votes to be named member of the year. Gwen Wolff received the award for best program of the year.

The June meeting was conducted by new president Gwen Wolff and hosted by Brenda Fontenot, who served a delicious meal of pasta and salad. The meal was followed by an interesting program given by Barbara Buroker. She demonstrated a microwave process for making bread and butter pickles as a quick and easy solution to the long process of canning.

Martha Miller gave a report on plans for the summer cultural, and Barbara Buroker announced the winner of the sorority’s annual scholarship was LaShona Thomas, a recent graduate of Ville Platte High School.

The meeting was adjourned with time for sharing.
