Erath edges Notre Dame in regular season soccer finale
ERATH – The Notre Dame Pioneer soccer team closed out the 2010 regular season on a sour note Wednesday, falling to Erath, 2-1, at Bobcat Stadium.
The Pioneers (9-3), who had already defeated Erath twice during league play heading into Wednesday’s matchup, struggled offensively in the first half and failed to score in the opening 40 minutes.
Erath scored the first goal two minutes into the contest before adding another goal with just over 16 minutes to go in the second half.
Notre Dame closed the gap to 2-1 with six minutes remaining when Jonathon Besse scored on an assist from Hunter Stover.
The Pios had two more opportunities in the closing minutes, but both shots just missed their mark and went off the sidebar.
Erath had 31 shots on goal on the night while the Pios were limited to just 22.
Notre Dame finished in second place in their district behind Catholic High of New Iberia.
The Pios are guaranteed postseason berth and will find out their playoff fate on Thursday. First-round action is slated for Friday.
