ESA's Reggie named to 7B All-District team

CROWLEY – As a sophomore, Crowley’s Frem Reggie starred for Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) in Cade, earning All-District and All-State honors in his first year of varsity baseball.

However, shoulder surgery on his non-throwing arm the summer before his junior season limited the local but he still managed to produce numbers good enough to make All-District.

This past summer, he had shoulder surgery on his throwing arm, which limited the utility athlete to just playing second base.

Not even that could break his spirits or hamper his batting average for that matter.

Reggie led the Falcons with a .522 average at the plate, going 22-for-46 in 15 games this season while collecting five doubles and two triples. He also swiped 18 bases in 19 steal attempts.

Reggie had nine multiple-hit games and collected three hits on three different occasions.

Those numbers were good enough to earn him a spot on his third straight 7B All-District team.

“Frem has been a leader on the ESA baseball team ever since he stepped foot on the field as a sophomore,” said ESA coach Mark Broussard. “He led by actions more than words but when he did speak, his teammates listened.”

“He led off for me his sophomore and junior seasons but I moved him to the third hole this year, trying to get my best hitter up with runners in scoring position.”

Reggie came through in the three-hole, posting a slugging percentage of .717 and an on-base percentage of .585. He also drove in 16 runs, scored 21 runs and struck out just once the entire season.

“Frem hit better this year than he did as a sophomore but not being on the mound and behind the plate or at shortstop may have hurt his chances of making the All-State team,” said Broussard.

“He is one of the finest young men that I have ever been around.”

Frem also got the job done defensively, committing just one error.

Frem is the son of Gregory and Terese Reggie of Crowley.
