Ethel Etia Herpin
GUEYDAN - A mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Ethel “Etia” Herpin, 84, was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Father Jason Vidrine officiating. Mrs. Herpin was called to her Heavenly Father early Thursday morning from the Crowley Rehabilitation Hospital. Visitation was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Friday, Nov. 6th from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and resumed on Saturday, Nov. 7th at 8 a.m. until the time of her services. A rosary was recited on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Mrs. Herpin will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Harrison, in the Istre Cemetery.
Ethel was born in Morse to the late Eugene and Alfonson Stelly Hargrave in the spring of 1925. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a very kind and loving woman and spending time with her family and friends brought a great deal of joy to her life. Ethel enjoyed playing bingo and making quilts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Adlas (Judy) Herpin of Evangeline, Floyd (Mary) Herpin of Gueydan, Dennis (Jan) Herpin of Mire, Dorothy (Gene) LeBlanc of Welsh, Etheline “Lynn” Prejean (companion, Francis Grado) of Crowley, and Bernell (Wayne) Lemaire of Kaplan; and her 23 beautiful grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Alfonson Stelly Hargrave; husband, Harrison Herpin; and one son, Russell Herpin.
Those who carried Mrs. Herpin to her final resting place were Shawn, Aaron, Mark, and Cartna Herpin, and Tyler Lege. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her great grandchildren.
