The Ville Platte Housing Authority provided the location for an Evangeline Parish Title I workshop held June 5.

The workshop was for children, who were accompanied by their parents, to learn how to do real-life math at home.

On hand for the workshop were Maryann Fontenot, Title I supervisor; Grace Vidrine Sibley, Title I parent involvement coordinator; and facilitator Mary Chris Fontenot, who used food found in the kitchen to do fun learning activities.

After the workshop, children were treated to sandwiches and soda and door prizes, consisting of math-related games, were awarded. There were 24 children and 17 adults in attendance Thursday, June 5, for the first workshop.

Sibley said the second workshop, to be held June 12, will feature ways to make reading fun with "Ms. Nina" from Ville Platte Elementary. In addition to the two workshops, Sibley said she will continue to visit the housing authority office to teach children math and reading comprehension strategies twice a month.
