Family Christian sweeps Northside
CROWLEY – Northside Christian fell to 4-8 on the season earlier in the week after dropping a doubleheader to the state’s 3rd-ranked team in Class C, Family Christian.
Family Christian won the first game 4-1 and then won the second 5-0. Each game was shortened to just five innings.
In the opener, Family Christian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after an inning and a half before Northside plated its only run in the bottom of the second. Pierce Rivera was hit by a pitch and later scored on Cameron Williams’ double to left.
Family Christian added its final two runs in the third on a single from J.J. Holmes that plated Ray Perry and Michael Glasper.
Rivera suffered the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and six walks. He struck out six in five innings.
Josh Wheeler had a triple and Williams had a double and a RBI in the loss.
In the second game, Glasper, Joseph Larson and Phillip George combined to throw a one-hit shutout at the Warriors.
Wheeler recorded Northside’s lone hit of the game, an infield single in the bottom of the first inning.
Jeremy Marceaux suffered the loss, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in four innings work. He struck out four.
The Warriors travel to New Iberia to take on Assembly Christian Thursday at 5 o’clock.
