Family Empowerment Expo addresses issues
CROWLEY – The Acadia Parish Family Empowerment Expo met Monday, March 9. The expo is a community resource gathering aimed at strengthening families by providing information and support from area leaders and dignitaries.
Following an opening prayer by Father Richard Wagner of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Rayne and a blessing of the meal by Crowley’s Reverend James Proctor, Mayors Greg Jones of Crowley, James Petitjean of Rayne, and Roger Boudreaux of Church Point addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of the family’s influence on child development.
Other speakers included Crowley City Court Judge, M’elise Trahan, who gave a judicial address; Brian Cormier of the Acadia Parish Truancy Assessment Service Center who spoke on the negative outcome of truancy; Detective Jimmy Broussard of the Crowley Police Department and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) who gave a “parent alert”; and Charles Banks, of the Drug and Gang Awareness Prevention Program.
Louisa Reddell, DSS/OPS Community Specialist, gave the closing remarks.
The evening was deemed to be informative as well as educational for all who attended.
