Fatal Crash On I-10

By Howell Dennis

A Crowley man and two unidentified people were killed in an accident late Sunday evening on I-10 westbound, near LA 91 in Acadia Parish.

Corey Stelly, 26, of Crowley, was operating a
2005 Chevrolet pick-up in the westbound lanes on I-10 when he struck a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by an unidentified male. Both the male and a female passenger in the Taurus sustained fatal injuries.

Both vehicles caught fire upon impact and the blaze was extinguished by responding members of the Crowley and Egan Fire Departments. All three victims had to be extricated from their vehicles.

It is unknown at this time what vehicle was traveling the wrong way on I-10. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident as it remains under investigation by State Police Troop I.

I-10 westbound was closed for approximately three hours and reopened at approximately 3:00 a.m. Monday morning.

The identity of the driver and the passenger in the Ford Taurus will be released upon notification of next of kin.

Also responding to the scene were officials with the Acadia Parish Coroner's Office and the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.
