Faulk, Schexnider, united in holy matrimony
The Knight of Columbus Hall in Kaplan provided the setting for the exchanging of nuptial vows between Desiree Sumer Faulk
and Joseph “Joe Joe” Schexnider III, both of Egan. The evening ceremony commenced amid family and friends at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 with Mr. Jessie Fabre officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mitchell and Doris Faulk of Egan. She is the granddaughter of Carrie Truax of Egan and the late John Truax, Curley L. and Carol Ann Faulk of Sulphur and the late Francis Faulk.
Desiree is a 2003 graduate of Iota High School and attended Louisiana Technical College where she earned a degree in accounting in 2006. She is currently employed with Bank of Commerce and Trust in Crowley.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schexnider, Jr. of Crowley. He is the grandson of Nola and Andrus Bertand and Wilson John Hargrave, all of Crowley; and the late Joseph, Sr. and Eva Primeaux Schexnider.
Joseph attended Gueydan High School and is currently employed as a floor hand with Coastal Drilling.
Appropriate musical selections were provided by Damon Broussard.
The bride, escorted by her father, was lovely in a white halter-top gown embellished with an intricate beadwork detailing throughout the dress which was accented with a cornflower blue ribbon. She wore a headpiece configured of a crystal and pearl floral tiara combined with an elbow-length veil and completed with a cornflower blue ribbon. The bride carried a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers adorned with a cornflower hued feather.
In keeping with tradition, the bride chose her grandmother’s wedding ring as something old, her wedding dress as something new, a pair of silver earrings as something borrowed and as something blue was a traditional garter.
Attending the bride as matron of honor was Ashley Hoffpauir, and as maid of honor was Heather Schexnayder, best friends of the bride and groom. Others attending the bride were Tabby Schexnider, sister of he groom; Sonya Faulk, sister-in-law of the bride; Laurin Latiolais and Sherry LeMaire, friends of the bride.
Each attendant was attired in a halter-top, knee-length dress in cornflower blue and carried a duo arrangement consisting of a cornflower blue rose and a single white flower.
Chosen to stand as best man was cousin and best friend of the groom, Nick Hoffpauir. Groomsmen were Waylne LeMaire, Justine LeMaire and Richard Hoffpauir, cousins of the groom; Bryon Faulk, brother of the bride; and Jeremy Schexnider, brother of the groom.
Alania Kibodeaux, friend of the bride; served as flower girl; while Ronald Faulk, nephew of the bride performed the duties of ring bearer.
On her daughter’s special day the mother of the bride, the former Doris D. Truax, was radiant in a floor-length navy blue dress accented with a coordinating jacket. She was presented with a single blue rose corsage.
The mother of the groom, the former Tammy Hargrave, was ravishing in a light blue floor-length dress topped with a light blue jacket. She was presented with a corsage made of a single white rose.
A reception, held at the same location, immediately followed the ceremony. The hall was elaborately decorated with blue rose petals scattered across the table tops joined by heart shaped candles. The registry table held photos of the bride and groom.
Among the many refreshments served was a four-tiered bridal cake consisting of various flavors including chocolate, red velvet, vanilla and Bavarian cream. Placed beneath the confection was a waterfall feature. Serving the bride’s cake were Heidi Stutes and Heather Comeaux.
The groom was honored with an oil rig themed cookie cake served by Becky Hargrave.
Out of town guests traveled from Gueydan, Crowley, Iota, Palmetto, Rayne, Church Point, Jennings, Roanoke, Mississippi, Wyoming and Maryland.
Upon returning from a wedding trip to Florida the newly weds will reside in Egan.
On the night prior to the wedding a rehearsal dinner was held at Hebert’s Seafood and Steak House hosted by the bride’s parents. Guests enjoyed a meal of seafood and grilled chicken.
