Funeral services for Felix “Blackie” Blackmon, 74, of Haslet, TX, formerly of Monroe, were held at Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2008 with Rev. David Philips officiating.
Interment followed at Gwin Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Felix Blackmon was born April 25, 1934 in Mangham, LA and passed away Wednesday October 22, 2008 at James L West Center in Ft Worth, TX. He was owner of Rayville Glass and Mirror Co., a member of the Moose Lodge, and Davis Island on the Mississippi River Hunting Club.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Caruthers) Blackmon; his father, Eubie Devotis Blackmon; his step mother, Laudie Long Blackmon; his mother, Allie Myrl (Frye) Watts; his stepfather, Charlie Watts; three brothers, Ernest Reid Johnston, Al Blackmon and Roy Blackmon; and his brother in law, John Wood.
Survivors include his daughter, Diana (Blackmon) Maston and husband Bruce of Haslet, TX;
his son, Philip Devotis Blackmon and wife Tyra of Haslet, TX; three sisters, Anne Wood of Newport News, Dora Gwin and husband William of Baskin and Myrl Barmore and husband Roy of Mangham.
He was also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The pallbearers will be Travis Blackmon, Chad Blackmon, Bobby Earl Parker, Paul Gwin, Matt Gwin, Gary Hebert and Mickey Jones.
The honorary pallbearers will be Wade Russell and Willie Nobles.
