“We’re in good financial shape,” Lee Hebert, chairman of the Fire Protection District No. 9 board, announced during Monday night’s meeting.
“We’re doing everything we need to do,” he added, referring to the audit findings by Brupbacher & Associates as he distributed copies to board members.
Hebert also suggested the fire district retain the services of Thibodeaux and Company, LLC, as its new accounting firm. Hebert explained that Scott and Sue Brupbacher are retiring and have sold the firm to Tiffany Thibodeaux, a former associate.
In other business, Hebert reported he made a payment of $36,200 on the department’s newest pumper and rescue unit, adding only one or two payments remain.
The board members also discussed issuing a second, 10-year bond after the current bond is paid off. Hebert reported he had made an initial inquiry with the bonding firm of Foley & Judell.
The members also discussed the installation of security cameras inside and outside the fire station. Hebert reported he had acquired one estimate of $11,278 for eight cameras.
It was decided to wait until a bond issue is finalized to combine the camera system with other equipment needs.
Hebert reported a Fire Act grant for the entire parish is intended to upgrade the radio communications for all fire departments in Acadia.
