Fire Chief: ‘Spring Forward, Fall Back’
Spring forward, fall back, it’s all a little confusing if you ask me. I am still waking up an hour early and I’m wiped out by 8 o’ clock.
But, twice a year we have to change the clocks either backward or forward.
This is also an opportunity to test the smoke alarm and change those batteries.
Most people don’t even think about their smoke detectors until there is a problem and most of the time that’s just a cooking mishap.
The truth is that smoke detectors save lives. Home fire deaths have dropped by fifty percent since they were invented.
This is also true here in Abbeville, I have seen it many times in my career.
Not having at least one in your home doesn’t make sense. Preferably, you should have one on each level of your home and right outside of sleeping areas.
So, this fall, as you set your clocks back, take time to change those batteries and test those smoke detectors. You never know your life may depend on it.
