Fire completely destroys home

By Howell Dennis

MERMENTAU – A Mermentau family is picking up the pieces after a wind-aided fire completely destroyed their home Sunday night.

“This home was completely destroyed,” said Captain Jeremy LeBlanc of the Mermentau Fire Department, who is related to the family. “We got the call but because of the wind and the isolation of the home it took us a while to get there. We just couldn’t make it in time.”

The home belonged to the family of Coy Henry, who shared the home with his girlfriend and his four children. Luckily, the family had been staying in a trailer next to the home when it caught fire because of construction being done to the house. One look at the remnants of the blaze, however, and it becomes obvious just how much the Henry family has lost.

Mermentau Elementary has already lined up Henry’s children with new school outfits. However, the children lost nearly all of their other clothing. Mermentau Elementary is taking donations for the children.

The following are the size of clothing the children require:

• a female child wearing 3T

• a boy who wears 5T tops and bottoms

• a girl who wears size 8 regular pants and medium girls tops

• a girl who wears size 1 pants and small adult top

Any donations to the Henry family would be greatly appreciated. Those wishing to contribute should call Mermentau Elementary at (337) 824-1943.
