The directors of Fire District No. 9 approved the purchase of a surveillance camera system to be installed in and around the fire station on South Adams Avenue during their board meeting Monday night.
The board has been discussing the need for surveillance camera for the past several months after a set of tires was stolen from the fire station.
Millennium Electronics of Crowley submitted the low bid of $3,500. The system will include six infrared camera to be installed outdoor and indoor the building, and recording equipment.
Board President anf Fire Chief Lee Hebert announced that Enertec, Inc., has been sold by Bud Gautreaux to Lard Oil Company and that the Rayne operation will be moved to Gueydan. The new owners, however, have arranged to provide the Rayne Volunteer Fire Department with a credit card to refuel firefighting vehicles at Frog City Travel Plaza, Hebert explained.
Hebert reported the fire department is awaiting word on two grants. The first, made through the Acadia Parish Fire Association, would fund a paging system for all parish fire departments. The second grant for $5,000 will be coming through the city of Rayne.
