Fire District Board discusses paging system
Fire Chief Lee Heberrt, told members of Fire District No. 9 that the 911 Communications District board is considering a plan to pay for a voice-activated paging system, with each fire department buying the individual pagers. In the past, the parish 911 system purchased alpha-numeric pages for parish firemen. Those units no longer earn credit points toward an improved fire insurance rating.
Hebert reported voters approved a 10-year renewal of the district’s millage tax on a 593-105 margin.
In other business, Bonaventure Co. Fire Fighting Equipment cancelled a six-month contract with the district for routine maintenance of its 10-truck fleet.
After much discussion, the board decided to have the firemen elect a person to maintain the fleet for the next three months. By January, the board hopes to finalize plans to ensure all the required work in completed in a timely manner.
Firemen elected Barry Granger as maintenance work through December.
