Fire Chief Ted Demoruelle reported having new tires installed on the mini pumper, which was approved by the board at its last meeting, and presented paperwork for the purchase of a new truck.
He also reported Truck 107 was damaged in Chataignier at an accident when the fireman was following directions to park in a particular area. The quote to fix it was $721.25. The department’s deductible was $1,000. He was given permission to fix the truck.
The board asked him to order some pagers for some of their new firefighters. He said he would purchase them. It was agreed to order 10.
Demoruelle also reported on the safety vests, which must be worn by all emergency personnel when responding to emergencies in accordance with new federal guidelines. He gave a quote of $27, $24 and $19.50. The district voted to purchase 35 of them.
The board agreed to sell bonds to purchase a new truck for the district.
Demoruelle gave a report on the fire calls. In January, the combined calls totaled 39, 24 in the City of Ville Platte and 15 in the district. The district had two structure fires, four grass fires, one medical call, one alarm activation, five extrications and two service calls.
