First Baptist Church celebrates 120th anniversary

Members and guests from California, Texas, Mississippi, Florida and various parts of Louisiana gathered for the observance

of the 120th anniversary of the First Baptist Church on Saturday, February 7.

The event began with a fellowship hour at 9 a.m. followed by a time of inspiration. Participating in the worship service were Pastor Roger Tarver, Associate Pastor Larry Evans, along with the sanctuary choir; Reverend Hugh Wallis, Lake Charles, former minister of music; Reverend Ernest Toepfer, Eunice, former interim pastor;. Al Marks, Eunice, former minister of music; and Reverend Glen Howie, Crowley, former pastor.

During the service Pastor Tarver presented a plaque to Joanna Leigh Pruitt for her service as church pianist for 60 years.

After the noon luncheon, guests returned to the sanctuary for a power point presentation on the history of the church by Elaine Simon.

Participating in the first of the two dramatic skits were Pat Andrepont, Billie Clayton and Linda Booth, a former member now residing in Baker. Kurt Buescher’s satirical skit portraying the character Hiram followed.

Music selections were presented by Banks Pruitt, Joanna Leigh Pruitt, Sharon and Roger Tarver, Linda Booth, Pat Andrepont, Kenny Richard, Mikayla Clayton and Al and Nanette Marks.

Jo-Anne Arnaud served as committee chairman, assisted by Elaine Simon and Joanna Leigh Pruitt.

Others who helped not previously mentioned are Kara Bergeron, Sylvia Barousse, Charles Fontenot, Linda Fontenot, Lonnie Hearn, Gerry Meche, Bob Nash, Margie Nash, and Peggy Sandidge.
