Former driving instructor, Trahan, found guilty of unlawful carnal knowledge of former student
CROWLEY - Randal J. Trahan, the former owner of a local driving school, was found guilty Tuesday evening of three counts of unlawful carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Trahan was immediately taken into custody pending his upcoming sentencing on September 30. He is facing a maximum of 10 years with or without hard labor.
Trahan pled not guilty to the charges that he had improper sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl on three separate occasions during August of 2011. The girl was a student in his driving course. Trahan was 46 at the time he was charged.
His trial was a bench trial before Judge Edward Rubin. Judge Rubin returned with a guilty verdict at approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Aside from the 10 years that Trahan is facing, his conviction cannot be expunged and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Bellard.
