Four committees direct Main Street Program

CROWLEY – As previously reported by the Post Signal, the Main Street Program held a two-day workshop at the Wells Fargo building Wednesday and Thursday. Local businessmen and civic leaders were encouraged to give their input and ideas for helping the project progress efficiently and smoothly for Crowley’s residents.
The program is geared around a four point approach with the focus being on promotions, design, organization and economic restructuring. Committees were formed to focus on each of these points.
The promotion committee’s goal is stated as promoting and marketing the assets of the community. Their projects include parking, retail sales, information distribution, the marketing of downtown events, and construction.
The goal of the design committee is to assist property owners in improving building appearances and maintaining the image and character of the downtown area. The design committee’s projects are to help in coordinating the facade designs for downtown businesses and to follow up with business owners on their specific needs during the time the construction is going on.
The organization committee’s objective is relatively basic. It is their goal to get as many Crowley citizens involved with the project as they can. Their projects involve recruiting, fundraising, membership drives, and raising awareness through press releases.
The economic restructuring committee is to work with exiting and potential businesses in the area. Their intentions include recruiting new businesses with the help of the Chamber of Commerce, forming a wish list for the recruitment of these businesses, and working with potential business owners to obtain assistance and training of new businesses.
“It’s going to take a total community effort to get this project going,” said Rita Johnson, Main St. Manager. “We all live here, we’re all concerned about our town and volunteering to help us out is a good way to show your support.”
