Francis to be recognized at Business Person of the Year
CROWLEY – The Board of Directors of the Crowley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the selection of Mr. Michael G. Francis as the 2008 Business Person of the Year. Mr. Francis is the President and Owner of Francis Drilling Fluids, Ltd. FDF is an oil and gas service company with twenty locations in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming.
Francis Drilling Fluids was started in 1977, and now boasts over 450 employees. One of the oldest drilling fluids companies on the Gulf Coast, FDF has maintained their commitment to quality and integrity both with their customers and employees. The company’s mission statement sums it up: “To be recognized as always doing our best under the watchful eye of the Creator and always producing high quality products and services with innovative technology, the best tools and equipment, and trusted teamwork.”
As one of the major employers in the area, Mr. Francis and Francis Drilling Fluids are generous supporters many civic, educational and faith-based programs throughout the Crowley community. Mr. Francis supports the professional and personal development of his employees, and he encourages them to give back to the community. Drivers on I-10 are greeted with a motivational message, which reflects the commitment FDF has to be a positive influence in the area.
Aside from his role as President of FDF, Mr. Francis served as the Louisiana Republican Party State Finance Chairman from 1993-94, and the Louisiana Republican Party State Chairman from 1995-2001. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Welcome House of Acadia Parish and the Evangeline Area Boy Scouts of America. He is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts.
Mr. Francis is married to Marcia Allen Francis. He has two sons, Mackey and Bryan, and eight grandchildren. He is a member of East Bayou Baptist Church in Lafayette. Mr. Francis was born and raised in Jena, Louisiana, and currently resides in Crowley. In addition to work and his political involvement, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing. He is also a registered pilot who enjoys flying.
All are invited to join the Chamber at the Annual Banquet on May 29, where Mr. Francis will be honored as the 2008 Business Person of the Year. The Chamber will also recognize Mr. Joe Freeland as Humanitarian of the Year, Outstanding Young Citizens, and the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Fezzo’s will cater the event which will begin with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy a live jazz music and have the opportunity to bid on items in a silent auction. The banquet will begin with dinner service at 7 p.m.
