Free boating safety class to be offered in July

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will offer a boating safety class free of charge on July 17.

The class will be held at the LSU AG Center in Crowley and will start at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. with one hour alotted for lunch. Participants will need to bring their own food and drinks.

The class will count for the requirement and boating safety cards will be issued to attendees 10 years old or older. Those under the age of 10 may also come and learn, but the requirement will not be met and a card will not be issued.

Pre-registration is required for the class and can be done by phone at 337-491-2588, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The class is a required to drive any boat of ten horsepower or for all people born on or after January 1, 1984. However, those born before this date are still welcomed and will also receive a boating safety card.
