Madison Renee’ Guidry, a Rayne High junior, was crowned 2008 Frog Derby Queen in ceremonies Monday night at the Depot Square. The winner is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Foote.
The crowning in advance of the Frog Festival was prompted by the upcoming Rice Festival where the Frog Derby is a featured attraction.
Emily Granger, a Rayne High senior and daughter of Lawrence and Patricia Granger, was selected as first alternate.
Summer LeJeune, a senior at Crowley High School, was named second alternative. She is the daughter of Edward and Tonya LeJeune.
Nichole LeJeune, a freshman at Crowley High School, was named Miss Congeniality. She is the 15-year daughter of Edward and Tonya LeJeune.
The new Frog Derby Queen was honored as the Frog Jockey Queen during the past year and judged to have the best dressed frog in last year’s competition. She was also chosen as Miss Congeniality in Teen Frog Festival competition.
Queen Guidry plans to attend ULL and become a physical therapist with a minor in special education.
The queen and her court will be formally introduced during the rescheduled Frog Festival Nov. 7-9.
The Frog Derby pageant is sponsored by the Rayne Lions Club.
