The grades are in and Acadia Parish has improved its District Performance Score and held its “B” letter grade. Up from 87.3 in 2013, Acadia drew an 89.7 DPS in 2014, both of which show the school district as a “B” district. The district is now just ahead of the state average of 89.2.

One thing became abundantly evident at Tuesday’s Rotary Club of Crowley meeting, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s engineering program is a huge asset to the state.

SLEMCO reports power outages, two schools closed in parish

Mire Elementary and Branch Elementary schools are both closed today (Jan. 7).

Branch was closed due to issues with the water and sewage lines running to the school.

Mire, however, was closed due to a downed power line that will not be fully repaired for about three hours.

Rice grower clinic Thursday

The LSU AgCenter is currently conducting a series of rice clinics throughout the rice-growing areas of Louisiana to help farmers help prepare for the upcoming crop year.

Sarver arrested

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Melanie Sarver was arrested without incident by the Lafayette Police Department at a residence on South Refindery early Friday afternoon.

According to Stewart, Sarver, also known as Melanie Walton, has recently cut her hair and dyed it red.
