A volunteer at a Rayne school has been recognized for her untiring record of service. During a reception held Tuesday, June 14, at White Oaks Plantation in Baton Rouge, Rayne’s Lizbeth Pleasant was honored as the 2016 Acadia Parish Volunteer of the Year.
For a 42-year-old man, Staff Sgt. Heath C. Leleux has led a life that most elderly men would be proud of.
CROWLEY - A release party for a book that tells what life was like growing up in South Louisiana in the 1930s, ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s will be held Thursday, June 23.

Whether it’s clear or cloudy, Relay is Saturday

There will be no raining on Relay For Life of Acadia Parish 2015 this year.
After a couple of years of rain forcing Relay’s early closure, this Saturday, Relay For Life will be held at Rayne’s Frog Festival Pavilion, meaning the weather will not stop the fun or the cause Saturday, April 25, at 6 p.m.

ASO&C’s Do-Re-ME! program netting great results

The Rotary Club of Crowley welcomed a report from the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra & Conservatory of Music Tuesday on the Do-Re-ME! program that is netting great results thus far. With just one 30-minute session per week, the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra & Conservatory of Music’s Do-Re-ME! program is netting good results.
Their goal of 20 percent increases in student test scores – labeled as aggressive for a low-dose program – are being met.

Raising awareness to veterans’ plight

Gulf War veterans Cliff Lee and Paul Gregg have formed a group called Two Veterans On a Mission to raise awareness to the problems that many veterans face upon returning home. On Thursday, they visited The Welcome House, where they discussed veteran homelessness and made a donation. From the left are Lee, Welcome House Director Stacey Miller, Gregg and James Martin, who has been supporting the group’s cause in Acadia Parish.

Acadia Parish 4-H Achievement Day set for April 24

After a year of hard work, 4-H’ers from across Acadia Parish will converge upon Midland High School Friday, April 24, to celebrate the year.
The appropriately titled Achievement Day will provide fun, educational opportunities for 4-H’ers and feature the recognition of Julie Hebert as this year’s honoree and Ethan Breaux of Iota Middle 4-H for his winning theme.
Breaux’s theme, “Let’s Sound Off For 4-H!!!!” takes its cues from the armed forces. His drawing also features the 4-H Pledge and military men carrying modified 4-H flags.
