Fugro Chance Family Performance Series, presented by the AcA, offers creative learning opportunities for children

Lafayette- The Fugro Chance Family Performance Series, presented by the Acadiana Center for the Arts, continues its 2010 – 2011 series Wednesday, March 16 at 6:30p.m. with Calliope Puppets performing “As the Wind Blows!”

Look what the March wind will blow our way! Calliope Puppets features magical shadow puppetry to inspire interest, understanding, and creative thinking about renewable resources. A Hopi myth and an inspiring true story provide contrasting views on the theme of controlling the power of the wind. Both highlight human dependence on natural resources – one a spiritual tale rooted in a way of life, the other the story of an incredibly determined and creative boy who taught himself enough science and engineering concepts to build a windmill in 1999 to light his family’s house in Malawi. Ages five and up will be delighted by this fun and highly visual presentation which includes some audience participation.

The artist, Artistic Director Karen Konnerth has toured nationally and internationally for over 25 years to schools, theaters and festivals, with performances and workshops for children and adults. Karen is on the Louisiana State Artists Roster and has received a State Division of the Arts Fellowship in Theater. She writes shows, designs and builds puppets, and performs with live voice. She is also a specialist in the integration of the arts across the curriculum and has presented teacher workshops at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., as well as abroad for the U. S. State Department English Language Specialist program.

This show will take place at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on 101 W. Vermilion St. from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 for children 12 and under and $6 for adults. For more information or tickets visit AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org, call 337.233.7060 or email Info@AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org.
