Garden Club holding poinsettia, wreath sale
CROWLEY - If you think the Crowley Garden Club takes a break in the winter, think again. As the holidays approach, members of the Crowley Garden Club are busy taking pre-orders for fresh balsam wreaths, swags, garland, poinsettias, flowering Amaryllis and Paperwhite plants and all for a good cause.
“We are very excited about hosing this event because all the proceeds go toward the Garden Clubs Civic Beautification Projects that help our community,” said Nancy Broadhurst, Garden Club president and fundraising chair. “We have received many wonderful comments about how nice the planters for the Downtown Streetscape purchased by our club look and now we are trying to raise funds for other civic beautification projects like trash receptacles and the beautification of the Blue Star Memorial Marker donated by the Garden Club placed at the entrance into the City on Parkerson Avenue and Hwy 13 to honor our service men and women. There is much more work to be done so the support we receive from this event is truly is a gift that gives back. It really causes everyone that makes a purchase feel that they are a part of being involved in helping build a better quality of life for our city,” stated Broadhurst. And that’s a good feeling particularly during this season of giving.” “
Garden Club members are taking pre-orders now through November 12 at city hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Parkerson Avenue and customers may pick up their orders November 29 through December 2 at city hall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..
The wreaths are 25 inches and made of fragrant balsam fir and the swags are 24 inches long and made with balsam fir and a touch of cedar and pine. Both come decorated with white-tipped pine cones, red holly berries and a gorgeous red velvet waterproof bow. The poinsettia’s are healthy and huge and are grown in a six-inch pot and measure approximately 15 inches tall by 15 inches across. They will be 22 weeks old upon delivery and are available in four colors red, white, pink and marble. Additionally, many past customers have asked us to provide Amaryllis and Paperwhite plants so we have added them in limited supply this year. The Amaryllis and Paperwhites come planted in a decorative pot and last two to three months and after flowering they can be planted in the garden or kept in the pot to re-bloom.
“This is a wonderful way for businesses and individuals to decorate at home, the office or purchase as gifts for teachers, employees, business clients/colleagues, corporate gifts, friends, parents or relatives while helping to support a great cause for our community,” Broadhurst added.
In addition, members of the Garden Club help to decorate city hall, during the holidays under the direction of Garden Club member, Keisha Rue. In 2009, the Crowley Garden Club began the tradition of decorating the Christmas trees at city hall right after Thanksgiving.
