Gents fare well at state indoor meet
BATON ROUGE – The Crowley Gents wrapped up the 2013 indoor track season in impressive fashion last weekend, scoring 23 points and finishing seventh in the Division II LHSAA State Indoor Championships in Baton Rouge.
John Curtis won the division, which included 25 teams, with a whopping 130 points. St. Thomas Aquinas logged 39 points to earn the runnersup spot. Franklin, Episcopal and Brusly tied for third with 28 points each and Lusher Charter was sixth with 26.
Crowley’s 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Chanz Moore, Thomas Cavell, Tyler Castille and Kirk Poullard, had the highest finish of the day. The quartet ran a 3:35.80 and finished second behind the team from John Curtis, which won the event in a time of 3:32.30.
That same contingent of Gents placed fifth in the 4x200 relay in a time of 1:35.05.
The Gents’ 4x800 relay team of Alex Domingue, Leighton Kilmer, Rontrevius Foreman and Poullard placed sixth in a time of 9:02.89.
Poullard also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (51.87) while Foreman was fourth in the 1600-meter run (4:43.76) and fifth in the 800-meter run (2:06.46).
Andre Mills also scored for the Gents with a fifth-place showing in the triple jump (41-5 1/4).
The CHS Ladies and Gents will begin the outdoor season this afternoon with a practice meet at Eunice High.
Other teams participating in the meet will include Eunice, Port Barre, Northwest, Oakdale and North Vermilion. Field events will get underway at 3:15 p.m. and the running events are set to start at 5:30.
Jr. High Track
On Saturday, Crowley High will host a junior high practice meet with field events starting at 9 a.m. The running events are slated for noon.
One week later, on March 9, Crowley High will host the Gent Relays for the Jr. High division. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. with running events to start at noon as well.
