Gents, Pios fall short in tournament action
CROWLEY – The Crowley Gents and the Notre Dame Pioneers fell short in their final games of the Notre Dame Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Gents dropped a 2-1 decision to University High early in the day and the Pios closed out the tournament with an 18-8 loss to St. Louis.
The Gents, who also committed seven errors in a 13-3 loss to Catholic High of New Iberia in their second game of the season, logged just three hits against University and left six runners stranded in the loss.
Taylor Doughty had two hits and Luke Ancelet had one for the Gents. Mickey Morgan had the Gents’ only RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
Mackay Mouton suffered the loss, giving up two runs on two hits and six walks in five innings.
In the nightcap, three Notre Dame pitchers combined to give up 18 runs on 16 hits and nine walks. The Pios also committed four errors that led to three unearned runs.
Offensively, the Pios were limited to five hits on the night. Connor Goss and Brennan Corzine each had one hit and one RBI while Gavin Bourgeois, Nick Gossen and Alex Rozas each had one hit. Andre Thibodeaux had a RBI on a sacrifice fly.
