Gents slip past Grant
DRY PRONG – The Crowley Gents scored three runs in the final four innings to slip past Grant, 9-7, Saturday in a non-district road contest.
Crowley improved to 10-12 on the season with the victory.
Pate Broussard had an RBI single and Kaleb Istre pushed across a run on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning to break a 6-6 deadlock and give the Gents a two-run advantage.
Grant cut the lead to 8-7 in the bottom of the frame but the Cougars committed three errors in the sixth that led to the Gents’ final run.
Mackay Mouton picked up the victory on the mound for the Gents in relief of Broussard. Mouton limited Grant to one run on four hits and two walks through 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three.
Broussard surrendered six runs on six hits and two walks in the first 1 2/3 innings. He also struck out three.
Broussard also led the charge offensively with a 3-for-3 performance that included five RBI. He had a two-run single in each of the first two innings and drove in another run on a single in the fourth.
Luke Ancelet followed with three hits of his own and Jon Riley Mouton had two hits. Alex Ashby added a double, Mickey Morgan and Brett Hebert each had a single and Istre had an RBI.
