Georgie Miller

CROWLEY - The Miller family sadly announces the passing of Georgia Sonnier Miller of Crowley, on June 2, 2010 at Southwind Nursing Home. Born on August 23, 1923, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay D. Miller; her parents, Lee and Theresa Sonnier, a sister Edith Berry and a granddaughter, Ashleigh Lorraine Miller. She is survived by her four sons, William Grant “Bill” Miller, Michael Benny Miller, Jack Derrick Miller and Mark Dee Miller, as well as a daughter-in-law, Diane Evertt Miller, wife of Michael, all of Crowley. Also surviving are her brother, Wallace Sonnier, sister, Dorothy Creswell, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Known to her friends as “Ms. Georgie,” she was occasionally and affectionately referred to by her friends as the unofficial Queen of Crowley, a title which befitted her southern belle demeanor and quick wit. Besides being a homemaker and mother, Ms. Georgie was a local businesswoman and formerly, a licensed, certified cosmetologist, as well as an instructor of cosmetology. She once wrote a hit country song, “God Was So Good,” which was inspired by what she considered was a miraculous recovery of injuries to one of her children.

Father Gary Schexnayder will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Friday June 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. The family visiting hours were held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to service time Friday. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Internment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.

The family gives special thanks to Drs. Michael Holland, Chad Vincent, and Dale Leleux, as well as employees of the Crowley Rehab Hospital, Southwind Nursing Home and Crowley American Legion Hospital. Michael, Jack and Mark also give special thanks to their brother, Bill, who cared for their mother over the years since the death of her husband and their father fourteen years ago.
