Going to St. Martinville? Go early!
While it's true that all roads lead to St. Martinville, they narrow down somewhat before they get to the city limits.
Avenues into town are La. 96, the Terrace Highway, from Broussard; La.31 north from New Iberia and south from Breaux Bridge; and La. 353, Prairie or Cypress Island Highway, which comes off of the Breaux Bridge Highway past Lake Martin. And in the past, all of them had had major traffic jams.
St. Martinville police say you should try to be in town by noon for the 1 p.m. start of the parade.
The parade starts at the Senior High on Main, or La. 31, and proceeds south through the heart of town.
There's also a Mardi Gras parade in Henderson, starting at 12:30 p.m. at the west side of town and proceeding toward the levee.
