Good times coming with the 2009 Amite Oyster Festival
The 2009 Amite Oyster Festival is coming! This years festival will be held March 20th, 21st and 22nd. However, events for the festival are lined up for the entire month.
The 14th Annual Amite Oyster Festival Scavenger Hunt will kick off the events Friday, March 6. The hunt will begin at 6 p.m. at Spitale's Restaurant.
The Laurie B. Richardson - Conway LaBleu Memorial Chili Cook-off will be held Friday, March 13. Judging will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the fire house in downtown Amite. Directly following the cook-off will be a street dance in downtown Amite. The dance will begin at 6 p.m. featuring musical entertainment by "The Domino's". Then, a former King and Pearl Brunch will be held at Mike's Catfish Inn on Saturday, March 14.
Thursday, March 19 there will be a reception hosted by First Guaranty Bank from 5 to 7 p.m.
The festival will kick into full swing Friday, March 20. The midway will open at the Tangipahoa Parish Fair Grounds from 3 to 11 p.m. Entertainment will begin with dance performances from Center Stage, Marcie's Dance Center, Laura Lynn Covington's Dance Studio and more. Then "The Domino's" hit the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 21 will start off with the parade as its first event. The parade is scheduled to roll through downtown Amite at 10 a.m. The royalty toast will be held at Peoples Soda Shop. The midway will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Entertainment starts at 11:30 with the cajun "Hot Sauce Band"; Jenny Brooks at 2:30 p.m.; "H@rd_2_H@ndle" at 5:30 and Todd O'Neil will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 22 the midway will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Entertainment will begin with "Broken Silence" performing at noon followed by Greg Hayden & Vintage at 3 p.m.
